The bridge between coffee consumers and the Specialty Coffee Industry

What happened to the coffee quality?

With fast food chains targeting coffee addicts, selling coffee (especially specialty coffee) cheaper only sounds like a good idea. The coffee quality is beginning to diminish as coffee is consumed just for a caffeine ‘pick-me-up’.

Its restaurants like Starbucks and McDonald’s that may be cheaper and faster but what about the quality? It is rare to find coffee consumers who don’t mind paying a little more for a great quality cup of coffee.

My goal for this blog is to kill your buzz by enlightening the average coffee consumer about why coffee quality should matter and other Barista insights into the coffee industry.

Don’t let instant, low quality coffee be the preferred because it’s cheaper. Coffee is a luxury. Life’s too short for nasty coffee.

I think the consumer should think about coffee like a fine wine, The better the beans the better coffee you should get, also to make the best coffee i believe that every coffee lover should grind their coffee fresh at home and please try the coffee before you put large amounts of sugar and cream in it, that way you will be able to tell what type of coffee you like compared to how much sugar you like.

    Thanks Jen :)

Your aroma drew me. I do not believe in decaf–have tried many. Even flavors don’t mask the off-taste. I do admit to a coffee float now and then. :)

You made a great point about how there is such a variety of decaf flavors.

It is even more difficult to find a great cup of decaf so I look for local roasters who let you come in and buy their coffee beans by the pound. The best place for me to enjoy decaf, is at home as well.

Thanks. I don’t know how difficult it is for you to find local roasters; however, our supplier is in Georgia. All of the decaf flavored coffees come in whole beans; as well as the decaf gourmet blends. They don’t roast until the day they ship to you. Check out http://www.cosmopolitancoffee.com

I agree that a good cup of coffee is hard to find at a fast food place as well as in restaurants. I may have a cup sometimes in the morning at McDonald’s; but it’s not really good.

I enjoy a great tasting coffee; I drink decaf, but there are so many wonderful flavors in decaf and gourmet coffees in decaf as well. I tend to use quite a bit of cream; but that’s how I enjoy it best. Cheaper is not synonomous with better or quality.

I don’t even bother to get coffee in a restaurant after dinner. The best place that I enjoy coffee is in my home when I make it myself!
