How Has Coffee Inspired You?

Different things and people inspire us. A mentor. A great book. A quote. All of these have inspired me daily or at some point through-out my life. Some things and places that you least expect can inspire you.

Coffee has had an interesting effect on me. It has inspired me in different ways. From aroma and taste to exploring new cafes and meeting new people, coffee has inspired me to:

  • Start this blog
  • Experiment with the chemistry of coffee
  • To appreciate culture and history on a whole new level
  • Push myself even harder to achieve short-term goals
  • Conversation I would not have otherwise
  • Conquer fears
  • Change my perception on different issues

And more goals I’m in the process of working towards for this month.

When I started thinking about how hard it is to find even good coffee and how special that great cup of coffee can be, I figured there had to be a way to make a difference through coffee. A little while later, Roast for Haiti (www.roastforhaiti.com) was born. We’re using the love of fresh-roasted coffee to raise money for a coffee farming project in Haiti.

The complexity of coffee is an amazing thing. It's a wonderful learning process. Staying awake always helps ;)

Coffee has inspired me to get a job in a coffee establishment (SBUX 2 yrs 3 mos), go back to school to get a degree in Hospitality (I've been in the Food Service industry since I was 14 – I won't tell you how many years that is…), and to start my own coffee-related business. I don't necessarily want to open a coffeehouse because I want something more mobile so I can take it with me when I retire and hit the road in an RV (last kid graduates high school in 7 years!). Haute Coffee Company is trying to be a store/boutique that sells coffee stuff and it will eventually become a catering company as well. Thank you coffee – I LOVE you so… :O)

How has coffee inspired me? Well, it inspires me to move..stay awake…I guess those are good things :) I've also started a video blog about coffee, and I've learned so much during the past year! Coffee is a cool beverage, because there is so much to it, how the different regions impart their own unique flavors, how the brewing, roasting, and processing methods all play a vital role in the final product. Coffee is just neato ;)
