When you think of art, science isn’t usually the first thing that comes to mind. I have always appreciated art but never really cared for nor understood science. Until I became passionate about coffee. Now, the science of coffee really intrigues me.
The Vacuum Syphon pot is an art piece itself. But at first glance it may look like something that should be found in a chemists lab. Well, that’s the thing about coffee. It’s a chemistry of art.
The guys over at Chemically Imbalanced created “The Syphon Project,” a close-up look into the process of the coffee syphon. Who would have thought science could be fun and beautiful?
the idea was to capture the paradox in a short film, lasting roughly the length of the syphon process itself but featuring almost exclusively macro photography. in this way, the images act as an almost abstract sequence of bubbles and steam and rising liquid and swirling particles — a gorgeous build-up of forces and processes. then, with a second look, you actually get some insight into the process — the behavior of heated water, particle migration and extraction quirks, foam and aromatic elements.
Here is some eye candy any coffee enthusiast will enjoy.
